Multivitamin May Lower Cancer Risk in Men
A study published online in the Journal of the American Medical Association concluded that a multivitamin (they used Centrum Silver from Pfizer in this study) may decrease the risk of cancer in men. The study included nearly 15,000 male physicians followed for over 11 years. They were divided into vitamin and placebo groups and over the duration of the study, 17.6% of vitamin-takers were diagnosed with a cancer while 18.8% of those in the placebo group received a cancer diagnosis. There was no difference in the risk of developing prostate cancer (the most common cancer found) and no conclusion could be reached about the risk of developing other specific cancers (bladder, colon, lung, etc) because of the small number of tumors diagnosed. Total cancer deaths were not statistically different between the groups. The complete article can be found at this link.
